The Litter Gitter is a program of Matanzas Riverkeeper that takes members of our community out on the river to remove trash from our waterways and to learn about litter issues. For this trip we will be partnering with St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department. Volunteers will be in kayaks to get hard-to-reach trash and we will be on the Litter Gitter collecting and bagging trash from the kayaks.
Volunteer Role
We need a Litter Gitter First Mate volunteer to assist with preparation, on-the-water assistance, and cleanup.
A Litter Gitter First Mate is a vital member of the Matanzas Riverkeeper's Litter Gitter program, responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the Litter Gitter II, a 24-foot Carolina skiff, during cleanup activities in local waterways. Being a Litter Gitter First Mate is a hands-on role that requires a combination of physical ability, leadership skills, and a commitment to environmental stewardship. First Mates play a key role in conducting cleanup efforts, addressing challenges, and promoting environmental awareness within the community.
