Matanzas Riverkeeper - Protecting What You Love

The mission of Matanzas Riverkeeper is to protect the health of the Guana, Tolomato, Matanzas estuary and watershed through advocacy, education, and community engagement. This presentation will introduce you to Matanzas Riverkeeper, highlight some of our current projects, and provide an overview of local water quality. We will also showcase different ways that your group can get involved to help us to protect what you love.

While large-scale conservation efforts are crucial, there are also many actions that homeowners can take to improve the health of our waterways. This presentation will illustrate steps you can take to reduce your environmental footprint and improve water quality in your own yard and around the neighborhood. Highlights of this presentation include Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ and stormwater pond best practices.

Advocacy 101

Matanzas Riverkeeper focuses on grassroots community organization and advocacy to develop policies and programs that will help protect the Guana, Tolomato, Matanzas estuary and watershed. Having an engaged and educated membership is critical to ensuring that our environmental laws and regulations are implemented and enforced. This presentation will provide an introduction to the political framework in which we work, highlight key decision-makers, and provide tips on how to be an effective advocate.
